17thSeptember 2010 - GENERAL MEETING:

Life and Times of Wiliam Cobbett

Free thinker, radical reformer, economist, political journalist and MP, Cobbett was for much of his remarkable life a Hampshire farmer at Botley. He rose to prominence on both sides of the Atlantic during times of revolution and reform. He is best remembered for his punchy journalism and 'Rural Rides'.

15thOctober 2010 - GENERAL MEETING:

Edward Thomas

Thomas, though Welsh, made his home at Steep, Petersfield. He is best remembered as a war poet, though much of his earlier work expresses his love of the Hampshire countyside. He died at Arras in 1917. Nicola will present the poems against the background of his life.
